From quintissential Hong Kong in Kowloon to sleepy, sunny Stanley

KOWLOON

I think Kowloon is probably the quintessential Hong Kong that most people think about when they think of Hong Kong. Streets brimming with market stalls, neon lights galore, traffic, bustle, busyness and a complete overload on the senses. Not exactly a toddler’s paradise but it was an experience we couldn’t miss out on! Our first stop, after the fun, cheap and stunning ferry ride across Victoria Harbour (a HK must do!) was a playground to allow Layla to burn off some energy and hopefully keep her happy whilst we explored the market streets. As the day turned to early evening we wandered through the market stalls of Temple Night Market mesmerised by the sheer volume and variety of goods on sale.

Our visit was not long after Chinese New Year and Layla loved looking at the giant, brightly lit, neon animal sculptures by the ferry terminal. Timing your arrival so you experience Victoria Harbour in the daylight and then travelling home when it is lit by the city lights is a great way to experience both sides of the pretty water view.

STANLEY

Stanley is a lovely location for a day trip if you are keen to breathe some fresh sea air and see another side to Hong Kong. The bus ride from Sheung Wan is worth the trip in itself, travelling over mountains roads with beautiful vistas, and past pretty coves and suburbs. When you arrive there are plenty of great restaurants and shops and a sweet little market to explore. Being our last day in Hong Kong we even treated ourselves to a glass of bubbly in a very European cafe/bar with a lovely water view. This is a place you could easily spend a lazy morning or afternoon meandering in the sunshine.
