Arrowtown is one of those quaint, cute, little historical towns that is a lovely place to stop for a wander. Do a bit of shopping, relax with a coffee, take lots of photos and enjoy a meal. It is very picturesque, especially in the early morning light before the masses of tourists descend, and infinitely instagrammable if that is your thing!
EATING OUT
There are no shortage of places to eat in Arrowtown, from take away coffee and baked goods, to fancy fine dining. These are just a few of the restaurants which I have frequented and would recommend.
Postmaster’s Restaurant
A nice variety of cafe options in a preserved cottage that has been on the site since 1860. Grab a seat on the front porch for a spot of people watching with your meal.
The Fork and Tap
A great pub with beautiful, big beer garden at the back and a little play area for your travelling tots. Heaps of food options, from healthy to decadent, and plenty of local beer and wine on the menu too. While away a sunny afternoon!
Agave
A big and buzzy Mexican restaurant tucked away down a side street towards the start of town. Great food and beverage selections in a lively atmosphere.
HIKING
One of the nicest things about Arrowtown is the stunning natural beauty which surrounds it. Just out of town there is a gorgeous river with pretty mountain scenery and lots of family friendly hiking options. This is a great website containing information on the plethora of walks available. My toddler and I have walked parts of the Sawpit Gully track which is lovely. We had a great time washing our hands in the waterfalls, running down the gentle hills and picking flowers for our hair! The light down by the river is stunning in the early morning so if you are a keen photographer, like me, it is an absolutely breathtaking place to potter about and catch the light on the lupin. The tracks and trails are also popular with mountain bikers.
