Eating out in Hong Kong

Hong Kong locals take their food very seriously. We found some fabulous little eating spots, from local, cheap as chips, sit on a stool in a crapped room type restaurants to the most beautifully designed, modern, raw food meccas. You will definitely not go hungry in Hong Kong!

GRASSROOTS PANTRY

I think my favourite meal of the trip was brunch at the stunning Grassroots Pantry. It is a gorgeous space with high ceilings, concrete floors, crystal lights and plenty of hanging baskets. The food is super healthy, inventive, organic and most importantly delicious! Being vegetarian eating out can sometimes be a disappointing experience with the same old offerings on the menu, but that was certainly not the case here! Hong Kong is not an early to rise city and we were there early, so the restaurant was quiet, but I am sure at any time it would have a lovely relaxed vibe.

HIGH TEA AT SEVVA
We were celebrating our wedding anniversary whilst in Hong Kong, and going out for fancy evening meals is difficult when you have a little one in tow so we decided to mark the occasion with High Tea (also one of my favourite things to do!). We choose the lovely Sevva restaurant and were not disappointed. The views were fantastic (even though it was a very cloudy day), the food delicious (even though perhaps not up to scratch in terms of prettiness!) and the setting quirky and beautiful. They even gave Layla a little gift to take home, which made me feel very welcome and not like my toddler was an intrusion or unwelcome. Top marks from this mumma!

CAFE DEADEND
A modern cafe with a lovely bright, airy fit out, perfect to cosy up on a chilly Hong Kong morning in February. Cafe Deadend is tucked away around the corner from it’s sister bakery Po’s Atelier, which sadly was closed when we visited. Great coffee (although expensive even by Australian standards), tasty egg and crab scramble and decadent pancakes. Worth the effort to find the place.

TEAKHA TEA HOUSE

If you are a lover of teas, and get excited at a long and creative tea list, then a visit to Teakha is a treat. There are two different locations and we visited the Sheung Wan address. Whilst their menu was limited we were very happy with our quiche and matcha cheesecake to accompany our tea selections. There is a lovely little sitting area in an upstairs room adjacent to the main room, or if you have toddlers who want to stretch their legs sitting outside on a log on the the pedestrian only street (watch for the odd motorbike going past) is a great option.
