Byron Bay For little people

Whilst I have been known to bemoan the lack of cool things to do with children in rural areas, and certainly do miss the opportunities living in a city provides, (hello great theatre, inspiring museums and art galleries, modern challenging playgrounds, and great play cafes for adults and kids!) there are certainly some great days to be had with toddlers in the Byron shire. And mummas and daddys can be assured of a great cup of coffee and amazing food not too far from wherever you find yourself.

Layla and I have had some great adventures at The Farm Byron Bay, The Macadamia Castle and of course at the beach. The Pass & Wategos being my fave Byron beaches with little beach baby in tow!

MY TIPS

At The Farm: grab a takeaway coffee (and one of the delicious pastries from Bread Social) and take a wander along the path to the pecan and macadamia orchards, saying hi to the animals along the way. On a hot day it is lovely and cool under the trees. There is a picnic table in the shade and heaps of chickens to keep your little one entertained!).

At the Macadamia Castle: make sure you arrive by 10am for the rabbit petting sessions. Super cute little bunnies curl up on the little one’s laps for a cuddle. The train ride is cheap and fun, but fills up quickly so get your seat a little early. There is a cafe on site, or venture past Newrybar and pick up an Allpress coffee from Harvest. Don’t forget to stop by Newrybar Merchants for incredible homewares. They have a great little kids room and wonderful kids books. Take your credit card!

At the beach: The Pass is great for kids with lots of little rock pools to splash in, shady spots under the trees and a giant, shallow puddle most of the year that is perfect for toddler and baby swimming. There is a cafe and picnic tables nearby. Wategoes is a stunning beach with some rock pools and a grassed area under the shade.
